Emily Kngwarreye
Emily was born at Alhalkere in Utopia c.1910 -2 September 1966.Her language group was Eastern Anmatyerre. In the 1970's she did batik painting and then started painting on canvas in 1988/89. At first her canvases, such as the "Yam Dreaming Cycle", showed more realistic detail. As she progressed, her painting became more experimental, minimalist and abstract. This is evident in the "Awelye" series, the women's ceremonial body paint designs. She is considered to be one of Australia's most outstanding contemporary artists and is represented in all of Australia's major Public Galleries,as well as in major private collections both Internationally and in Australia.
