Makinti Napanangka
Makinti was born around 1930 in Kintore, 500 kilometres west of Alice Springs. She and her family walked into Haasts Bluff before the Papunya Tula Community was established. She started painting in acrylics in the mid 1990's and quickly developed her own style. Her style of painting is derived from the designs painted onto women's bodies for tribal ceremonies. The lines may also represent the strands of hair or string woven into their skirts for ceremonial dances. She has had several solo exhibitions throughout the country, and is recognized as one of the most respected of the Elder Australian indigenous artists. "The Art Collector" magazine recently listed her as one of the Top 50 Most Collectable Artists in Australia.
