Michael Jagamarra Nelson
Michael was born around 1945. He was born at Pikilyi, the place of the White Cockatoo Dreaming, in the Central Desert.He grew up in the bush and lived with his parents at Haasts Bluff. His country lies at the intersection of several Dreaming Stories. In 1983, he began to paint regularly after having moved to Papunya Tula in 1976, and there having observed the senior men painters. He paints "Possum Snake", "Two Kangaroos", "Flying Ant" and "Yam Dreaming" as well as lightning, rain, shields and sacred sites. In 1988 he received one of his greatest accolades when his design was chosen for the mosaic in front of Parliament House in Canberra. He is widely recognized as one of Australia's most famous artists and is collected in every major Public Gallery in Australia, as well as having been widely exhibited and collected throughout the world.
