Minnie Pwerle
The Pwerle SistersMinnie Pwerle was born around 1910 in the Utopia area. Sadly she recently passed away on the 18th march 2006. Her country is Anmatyerre and her language is Alyawarr and Anmatyerre. Minnie has five sisters, two brothers and seven children. Several members of her family are highly acclaimed artists, including her daughter, Barbara Weir. She began painting seriously in 1999 and immediately blossomed into a major talent, reminiscent of the rise of Emily Knangwarrye, her sister-in-law. She paints in a vigorous, vibrant, colourful and unique style. Her main Dreamings include "Awelye-Atnwegerrp" "Bush Melon" and "Bush Melon Seed". "The Art Collector" magazine recently listed her as one of the Top 50 Most Collectable Artists in Australia. She has been exhibited in many countries and is widely collected in both Public and private collections throughout this country.
