Mitijili Naparrula
Mitjili is a Pintupi woman, born around 1945 from the Haasts Bluff region in the Northern Territory. Her mother is the well known artist Tjunkayi Napaltjarri, her brother is the late Turkey Tolsen and her husband is Long Tom Tjapanangka.She began painting at the Ikuntji Womens Centre in 1993. She paints the trees that are used in the spear straitening ceremony, an aspect of the Uwalki Dreaming, as well as the sandhills, shrubs and Uwalki trees. Mitjili's work is represented in many major Australian institutions including the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales, and Flinders University, South Australia. She has won several major art awards.
